Margaret Stevens

Background:
There are just sometimes that my hair does not react the way that I expect it to. One thing that has always been a problem for me is that my hair does not like for me to use the same conditioner and shampoo for anything longer than three months. If I failed to try a new shampoo and conditioner or just happened to pick a bad one, my hair would knot. I don’t want to underestimate the mess my hair would be come. It would know, tangle, and become a rat’s nest. This was equally horrible since most of the time my hair is half way down my back and really thick. Trying to take care of the damage control was very painful and time consuming. Then I read this link and my prayers were answered.
The Method:
Shampoo: Use baking soda for a shampoo. I normally take a small box of baking soda and mix it with equal parts water.
Conditioner: I use white vinegar and mix it with equal parts water. It doesn’t have to be organic. The one that I use is $2for a gallon at my local grocery store.
Why it works:
The baking soda works as a good way to bind to any leftover dirt, product or chemical that is left over in your hair. This is going to feel a little weird to use. Expect it to feel gritty and there are times that I do miss the suds from my old traditional shampoos. I then take the vinegar mix and poor it directly on my hair. I like the feeling of the bubble being created from the baking soda/vinegar mix and I feel that it really cleans my hair better. One thing that I cannot stress enough, is don’t be afraid of using this method because of your hair type and if its dyed or not. I have been using this method of over a year now and I even poor fresh white vinegar on my hair to wash out the left over hair dye. It has never changed my hair color, or affected my current dye job. The unexpected benefit is that my heavy hair takes half the time to dry with this method and I normally don’t need detangler or hair oil afterwards.
