Has all this money talk been a bit triggering? I know this might sound a bit crazy.

But Ive seen it so often, when you start making more. If you don’t have the tools in palace to handle the growth. Your brain can create these random story’s about how it can all go away.

It can feel like sand slipping through your fingers. While your doing everything to hold on to what you have.

My demons sound like:

Money has to come through a certain way. AKA a job.

Money never last.

Money doesn’t stay around.

There are always bills that need to be paid, so there isn’t enough to sit in savings.

I have to grind myself into the ground to make things happen.

I cant say no, because they ANY opportunity wont come again.

There are so many things I had to unlearn and over come at each income level.

Don’t shrink…. Shift.  I’ve shared a lot of our past money growth pains over the last few emails.  It was a scary to “air it all out” if I’m gonna be honest..

But everything I’ve gotten, the husband, the job, the fur babies, the new ducks… has all been because I said… Fuck it, why not. Lets try this…

I have this part of me that loves to take risks and rebel against what people are telling me.  OMG, the advice I use to get was HORRIBLE.

That’s how people told me to fix my issues with money…  

Spend less than you make.

Find a job that will give you health insurance.

Make sure you pick a good college major.

You can, maybe, go on one good vacation a year.

Its not possible to make more than you did last year.

Dont you have enough already? Why do you keep wanting more?

I’d still be a basic broke b*itch in Pasco if I had listened to it.  

What they were really saying was.    

Dream smaller, your too shiny.

Hold up. your asking for too much.

Who are you to get that…

You have to wait your turn.

What your asking for is making me uncomfortable.

All of the little.  “I cant take it anymore….. Lets burn it all down. Because this is just suffocating” decisions

Got.. me… here…

Not all at once.  It still was messy and hard and would, at times. Leave me balling in my car, like my heart was coming out of my chest.

So when I talk about money. I can speak on that from living in so many income brackets.  The biggest shift I can share is that its all mindset.

Mindset and trusting the nudges you get can lead to the life you were actually meant to live.  But, got a little of course on the way there.

Building confidence in yourself and how you handle money will lead to.

 Apply for jobs, that make more than you do now.

 Starting that side hustle you always dreamed about.

 Stop doing everything for free.

 Filling your time up with crap, then secretly resenting it.

 Trusting yourself to earn and spend more than you did before.

You start to deeply, energetically, emotionally understand that money is a tool.  It can help or hurt you.  But its all in how you use it.

You can use to speed up time. Or keep you stuck and loose that momentum for the millionth time.  

All the baggage that we bring to the understand around money, is not required.  Feel free to let that shit get lost at the airport.

Raise your hand if you have bought a course and were disappointed in it?   I know I have.

You read a sales page or see something on the socials and get sucked in.  They are able to create magic with there words and tell a really good story.  Have cute stickers or emojis. You get swept up in how they make you feel.

Like the possibilities are endless

You will be able to manifest so.. much… faster

This course will transform you

It will bring forth this magical person that has it all together. The one that is never upset or has a bad moment.  Its just one simple click away.

You get the courage.. Tell yourself its gonna be different this time and buy the course.

and… then you start to dig a bit and are disappointed. Or worst yet, they throw so much at you that its impossible to implement any of it.

So you quit.

Not all courses are created equal. Actually… I’m gonna be hella honest. There are a good chunk of courses suck.

They lack depth and feel like its missing parts.

There is no follow through on what they talk about.

The teacher doesn’t really know the material.

 They don’t live and breath there work.

I’ve bought a LOT of courses to. Like so many, that I have an organization system and spreadsheet with my login info. All with the intention of moving my business and personal life forward. But most of them haven’t done that.

So why do we keep buying courses, audio books and workbooks?

To solve a problem or a pain point faster. But most of us cant actually tell you what that problem was.  

My problem was simple. I knew we were broke and I was determined to not stay that way forever.

When I bought the course. I’ll be honest. I got excited about the lifetime updates.  It wasnt really common back then.

What that turned into over the years is referring to it over and over again.  Regardless of my income level or direction money showed up in my life.    

I have been able to grow with this course and be supported at every stage of mine and Bens money journey.  I don’t know another course that has been able to do that.  (and I’ve bought a lot of them. Just don’t tell Ben. lol)

Yesterday I told you a story about how I was able to find a course to get me on the right track.  Here part 2.  

When we decide to close the shop, it was a HUGE move.  We had a lot of debt to deal with.  While we loved being entrepreneurs, we needed a break.  So while Ben was at a motorcycle auction, he mentioned that he was going to close the shop.

That lead to a phone call, which lead to an interview 3+ hours south at a dealership.  He was smart enough to negotiate that we both work for the company or that I would go work at one of there competitors.  Lol (such a boss move)

Needless to say, after an obsessives amount of hours weighing the pros and cons. We decide to say good by to our life and move south.

With that came even more debt and decisions.  See when we closed the shop we had a 7k loan on a credit card and a 35k loan to a local small business incubator.  Just for the shop alone.

Knowing that we had to pay them back was a bit overwhelming.  Because on top of that, we were moving into a RV, we couldn’t find housing and selling were our house at the same time.

So juggling moving, driving back and forth 3+ hour each way on the weekends to renovate our existing home.  Plus taking all of our cash and using it to start paying off the business debt was a lot.

We were making about 3x more each week than we were when we owned our business.  But we didn’t keep any of it. I truly mean it when I say we were taking ALLL of our excess money and paying off the business.

It felt like the creditors come from everywhere.

 a bill for our phone and internet from the shop. Even though we returned the equipment.

 That incubator loan for 35k that had to be paid back in 7 months to “allow” us to close the business or they would sue.

 We had to pay the county because they didn’t know we had closed and tired to charge us for assets they thought we had.

  A PO box to move all our mail to our new home.

 Personal credit card debt that had racked up while owning the shop.

 Paint, new AC, new roof and other things to make the house look nice to sell it.

 One of us driving to our old home each weekend to get things done. ( We took turns, but still.  Gas, food, ect).

It was such a weird time.  We were both making more than we had in YEARS.  But we weren’t keeping any of it.  

I hated the feeling that we were spending it as fast as we made it. So instead of making up a story or “limiting belief” in my head that we had manifested this debt.

I made up a new story with the help of one of the bonuses from the course.  I leaned in hard to drop the money struggle bundle every time the bills felt overwhelming.  

How I said it in my head….  We are paying our way out of poverty and clearing the decks from our old lives.  Every time someone wants to charge us.  Its just another part of our life that we are releasing so that we can fully create a new life down south.

I was willing to clear all the clutter to get to that new life.  

 I donated hundreds and hundreds of household goods instead of moving them.

 Ben sold tools and equipment that he wouldn’t need anymore.

 Our clothing got paired down and we sold all our furniture.

 Most of my office stuff got sold and books that I had been collecting for 10 years at that point.

Basically we sold/donated/gave away so much that we could fit everything in a 10×20 storage unit.  And that included a 8ft tool box with the tools that Ben did keep.

Being so willing to get rid of everything started to add up. We finally had stopped getting random bills saying we owned someone else money.

Ben was able to side hustle his face off and we paid that stupid loan off.  I took every hack I could to redirect money and snow ball it toward the existing debt we did have.

Buy the time we sold the house. We were in the clear.  No more people having there hand out. No more random bills. No more baggage.

All the while I was learning and listening to the money course over and over again.  It was one of my favorite things to listen to while driving from home A to home B.  All those hours on the road really added up.

I took every opportunity to soak up the wisdom and change my mindset.  I had said that prayer to help me manifest the life I wanted all along.  This felt like me holding up my end of the bargain and “doing the work”.

Does that mean this has to be your story.  Hell no!!!!  This just happened to be mine.  Changing your mindset around debt and money doesn’t have to mean you blow up your life in the process.

But what it will mean is that you are clear on the vision you are holding and what you really want to manifest.

That can be as simple as getting the credit cards paid off and having 10k or more in savings. Or it can be a big and bold as what Ben and I did.  

The path to the life you want is really only a few moves away.  I’ve proven that over and over again, as I keep realigning myself with my new dream life.

I see money as an opportunity to do good in the world and keep me and my family safe now.  Not as a stressful burden or something that I have no control over.

Plus, the tools that I have learned helped me from making stupid mistakes once we really were able to keep it. The reason why I talk about this course every year when it opens is because it grows with you.

Regardless of where you are at on your money journey, there is a module or lesson that can help you shift.  While it can feel like magic at times. It really is just you putting yourself into a supportive and positive environment. Were people are willing to stop sabotaging there lives when it comes to money, make more and finally thrive.

The post My story part 2: from creditors everywhere to finally keeping our money appeared first on Margaret Stevens.

Have I ever told you the story of how I went from $250 a week to $100k a year?   It was years ago, when Ben and I ran a motorcycle shop.  Ben had talked about running a shop for years as a dream.  Then the opportunity came up in 2015.  

So we opened the shop.  Our first year was fun and rough at the same time.  So much fun because Ben was doing something he loved and we were gaining traction fast.  

 Expanded locations 2x because we got too big

 Getting tons of referrals from existing customers

  Making more money each week through the shop

But the scary part was when we hit year 2.  See, we had a run way of about a year of income before the shop had to start supporting us.  Between my corporate job and then the settlement I had gotten for my broken arm.  We had some wiggle room.

Then, when it came time for the shop to start paying us. MANNNNN did we mess it all up.  

 We didn’t know how to account for the taxes.

 We struggled putting a dollar amount to our time spent

 We always made paying ourselves the last priority.  

It was always the business coming first.  Not taking into consideration that the business should take care of us too.   So about this time.  

I finally hired a decent accountant and she told us to start at least paying ourselves $250 a week, each.  That $250 felt so scary. Mind you, I had been fired from a corporate job making 40k a year just before.  

So it wasnt the “actual” dollar amount.  It was that I didn’t feel worthy of the money.  I had so many hang ups around making money, selling, paying ourselves.  

Most of the time paying ourselves would make me want to throw up. But at the same time, the tiny income that we were taking was starting to take a toll on us.

 We couldn’t get a car loan with out my dads help because our income was too low.  (aka non existent)

 We were racking up credit card debt. Often times paying the minimum or $2 more if the a/c bill was cheap enough.

 We started bartering out services around the house, because we couldn’t pay to get the a/c properly fixed.

I felt like a frog in a pot of water, and the water was starting to get uncomfortable.

Other than Ben beating cancer, it was one of the times I’ve prayed hardest for help.  God, Angels, Universe, anyone who was listening. I knew that we were one accident away from something catastrophic happening.

Then a friend make a Facebook post about a women call Amanda Fances.  I was like cool..  I keep asking for the universe to help me around money.  Let me follow her.

Following her lead to buying one of her courses on my credit card, using the payment plan.  

Which turned into me digging into some of my biggest money fears:

 Like taking customer out of paying us for services. Because they could do them next time. Even when they were asking for it then and there.  

 Not being comfortable of handling more money. At home or for the shop.

  That I could ever get good with money and not have to spend it all before it disappeared.

And slowly, as I used her work.  

  $250 a week started to become $300 a week…. Then $400 a week…  I got comfortable paying us more each week.

  The shop goal went from bringing in 5k a month to 10k a month. It was safe to handle more money.

  I started “selling” when at work. Aka making relevant recommendations with no attachment other than to be of service.

My life changed by using Amanda’s work… Even though we ended up closing the shop.  We couldn’t expand anymore without going to a franchise;  and wanted to do something different.  

The money principles have stayed and grown with me.  I used them to negotiate my salary for the job I’m at now..   Let me be fully transparent 60% of my paycheck is commission.

Why? Because I knew that as I learned my craft I wanted to make sure I didn’t have any money hoops to jump through. I didn’t want to have to ask for a raise every time I made progress.

I knew that I could trust my self to make more money.  I had a unbreakable foundation in place.  I also had lifetime access to resources to get me unstuck while our income has grown.

Becoming a wealthy woman. Not playing small anymore. No longer being afraid to go after what I desire and knowing that any failure along the way is worth it in the long run. Wealthy woman vibes… That’s been my goal for years. Now, when I say goal. I mean like super deep desire before it ever was a core belief.

I have always been obsessed with money and how it influences our lives. I still have memories of being 15 and reading the Complete Tightwad Gazette . ( It was a 5 inch thick book that taught you everything about how to spend less and stretch you dollar.)

But regardless of how I budgeted our money or how many lamps I unplugged in the house to save on electricity. (Something that drove ben NUTS). I still had a hidden longing to have more than enough.

Like more money than I new what to do with. I don’t know if any of you remember scrooge mcduck and him swimming in money from the cartoons as a kid. But, yea, that was my desire.

Then I had the even crazier idea to GO LIVE… Now if you have listened to any of my shows, you know Im a big introvert. So to have the desire to livestream my podcast, well that was earth shattering.

But that feeling wouldn’t go away. Trust me, I tired ignoring it. But it was like a whisper in the back of my brain. Maggie – you need to trust. Showing up in all areas is required in all areas to become that next level wealthy woman.

So Here I am. Showing up. Feeling the fear and doing it anyway. Ive missed hosting my podcast and I’ve deeply missed my work. So what better topic to bring back then to start off with a bang and talk about becoming the wealthy woman.
